Spiritual Maturity
Understanding the Paradox
The topic of Spiritual Maturity always seems to be one shrouded in much of a paradoxical mystery. For one, we often associate Spiritual Maturity as a place we can never attain to, and for another, we know that Spiritual Maturity is the place we want to be at. So wanting to be at a place we can never get to seems rather contradictory in a great design. Often, rather than try to understand this mystery, we simply accept the fact that we can never reach Spiritual Maturity and merely “try the best we can” which often does not yield the best results. So, let us discuss this mystery.
What is Spiritual Maturity?
I often enjoy posing this question to people, as it often elicits highly varied responses. Responses range from: Evangelism, having good quiet times, supporting friends, going to church, to “I don’t know”. Usually the responses are given with much uncertainty, speculation at best, and it reveals that few have truly reflected on this topic of Spiritual Maturity. If we were to ask is Spiritual Maturity our goal, hopefully most all would say yes. However, do many Christians know what Spiritual Maturity is? My experiences with posing this question have yielded discouraging results. So, if our goal is Spiritual Maturity, but we have no clue what that looks like, how are we ever going to get there? If we have no clue as to where our final destination is, how are we ever going to arrive there?
So with that in mind, let me pose the question to you. What do YOU think Spiritual Maturity is?
